Greg and Leah: South Carolina Wedding

We’ve had a really busy couple of months here at Lumos Studio, filled with bridal shows, the Professional Photographers of South Carolina convention, and lots and lots of photography. Unfortunately, that means the blog hasn’t gotten the attention it has deserved. The good news is that this week we’re having FIVE (business) DAYS OF BLOGGING! Check back tomorrow and for the next three days after that for a constantly-updated stream of photography.

We’re starting the week off with an awesome wedding from back in January. You should remember Leah and Greg from their engagement session and from Leah’s bridal session. This was an incredibly special wedding for me not only because Leah is a former student of mine, but because not one, not two, but three of her bridesmaids are my former students! Add to that the fact that I teach with both of her parents, and that everybody involved is simply a whole lot of fun, and, well, we had an amazing time. Check it out.

Leah and Greg were married in Greenwood, SC, so Wendy and I started out the day by driving out to the church to get a look around and scout locations. It turns out that Leah was there dropping off her dress, so we also took that time to get a few shots of the dresses and other accoutrements.

After photographing a few of the details, Wendy went to photograph Leah and her bridesmaids getting ready while I got the guys.

I absolutely love this photo of Leah that Wendy grabbed before the ceremony.

Finally, it was time for the ceremony.

Wendy and I think that a wedding ceremony is one of the most beautiful symbols of love that exists. Sadly, not everyone can work up the level of excitement about them that we have.

Next, we moved on to the reception, which was held at the Sundance Gallery which belongs to Jon Holloway, who is not only an amazing photographer, but a very gracious guy.

The food at the reception was not only beautiful…

…it was delicious.

From there on out, everybody pretty much just had an awesome time.

Leah’s brother and sister-in-law apparently thought the whole affair was very romantic.

…fortunately, so did Greg and Leah.

What would a wedding post be without a good sword photo?

…or the grandmother with the beer can pyramid?

…or one last dance with the girls before departing.

And goodnight everybody!

We wish Leah and Greg the absolute best in their new life together!

We’re only on day one of the FIVE (business) DAYS OF BLOGGING, so check back all this week for kids, actors, and even…web developers?

Playful Bridal Portraits with Rosemary

Do we seem excited? It’s because we are! Partially about the season premier of The Walking Dead, but mostly about the fact that Rosey and Chris are married! And that means that we can share with you these bridal portraits that we took of Rosey!

Modern bridal portrait

You can understand our excitement, no?

Bride looking over her shoulder

Rosemary and Chris were married Saturday on Folly beach. It must have been a fairly popular date and location for weddings, because we saw one wedding to our right and another to our left just slightly later in the afternoon. I’ll give you one guess which of the three brides was the most beautiful, though…

You might remember Rosemary from our earlier posts about Gyrotonic Columbia. Since then, she’s also competed nationally in yoga. (Yeah, I didn’t know that yoga was a competitive sport either. I’d love to hear the trash talk. “You think you’re serene?! You think you’re serene?! I’ll show you serene!”) I think her hard work has paid off.

Lovely bride holding her dressThe clouds were very cooperative that evening.

We had a blast getting these playful bridal portraits with Rosey. On top of everything else, Rosemary is a dancer (and used to dance with Wendy) so she knows how to move!

A playful photo of the bride

Isn’t she elegant?

Isn't Rosey an elegant bride?

So dramatic!

Even in the simplest of settings, Rosey pulls of such a graceful form. She really makes our job easy.

Nobody puts Rosey in a corner! Okay, actually we do, but she works it.

Beautiful bride lying on the floor

Rosey, we love you! Thank you for being so lovely in your wedding dress and for being willing to play with us to get these photos.

Come back very soon, everyone! We’ll have a teaser from Chris and Rosey’s wedding later this week that will include yoga (non-competitive), surfing, a crazy cute baby, and an absolutely lovely bride and groom.

Sherrod and Jeremy’s Wedding: Rain, the TARDIS, and Velociraptors

You’re essentially bound to think that the title of this post is misleading (though the presence of the TARDIS could explain why velociraptors showed up), but I assure you everything I have promised will make an appearance. Frankly, with stuff that cool, it’s kind of odd that I’m starting the post with a picture of a chalk board, but it says “welcome”, so at least it’s a good start thematically.

Welcome

Sherrod and Jeremy got married Saturday at The River Road & Jasmine Houses and Gardens in Columbia near Lake Murray. This wedding was wonderfully whimsical and filled with joyful, fun people. Let’s start with the flowers. Roses? No. Daisies? No. How about maps?

No, this is not the velociraptor I promised, but it’s a darn fine impression.

Ah, now we’re really getting somewhere! No doubt all the Doctor Who fans will recognize this police call/ring box. (Frankly, when I opened it, I was a bit surprised it wasn’t bigger on the inside. Still, it fit the rings and that’s what’s important.)

The whole day we labored under the threat of rain, but it was still holding out as the girls and guys started getting ready.

The guys

Just as the ceremony was about to begin, a sprinkling of rain began to fall, but it did nothing to dampen anyone’s mood. Besides, isn’t rain on your wedding day supposed to be good luck?

Sherrod and Jeremy wrote their own vows, which were lovely and touching.

By the end of the ceremony, everyone was slightly soggy, but ready to party!

Hello, ladies...

The lovely and delicious cake was provided by The Cake Professor. But…what’s that on top of the cake?

IMG_7685

Yes, it’s a velociraptor bride and groom. In fact, the bride is even wearing a tiny engagement ring, which is absolutely lovely, but sometimes gets in the way when she’s tearing into her prey. How great is her veil, though?!

Departure

Congratulations, Sherrod and Jeremy! We had a blast with you, your family, and friends! We hope you’re having a great honeymoon and wish you a journey full of adventure and, most of all, love.

Andy and Caroline’s Winnsboro Wedding

Caroline and Andy were married last Saturday in Winnsboro and we were delighted to celebrate their day with them.

Now, it’s important to get this out of the way: Andy and Caroline are Clemson alumni and big Clemson fans. How big? Just wait…you’ll see. As graduates of USC, though, Wendy and I only feel it’s right to warn our fellow gamecocks that if you’re not comfortable with overt displays of tiger pride, you may want to turn back now. If you do, though, you’ll miss out on a beautiful wedding (and a couple of adorable pups, too).

These may be the best socks I’ve seen at a wedding:

He looks happy, but inside he’s really bummed about the church’s no-dogs-as-groomsmen policy.

There was a caricaturist who made amazing likenesses of the guests (and the bride and groom). But, who’s that standing behind Andy and Caroline? That’s a lot of orange for a wedding…

The Clemson tiger came to the wedding!

Yes, the Clemson tiger showed up at the wedding. (School loyalty aside, he seemed like a very cool guy and an excellent dancer.)

(Yes, I said an excellent dancer.)

Big thanks to Summerdaze Dance and Show Band for keeping the party going!

But the night eventually had to draw to a close, and we bid Caroline and Andy adieu as they set off on their new life together.

Hans + Lou – Columbia Wedding

Maybe you remember Hans and Lou, the couple sweeter than Pi? Well, they’ve moved on from engaged to the real deal–they’re married! Here are a few of our favorite images from their wedding at Trenholm Road United Methodist Church and their reception at Rockbridge Club.

We couldn’t have asked for a much more beautiful day.

Hans+Lou-columbia-wedding-001

Hans was ruggedly handsome, as usual.

This was a lovely detail I’d never seen before. Lou made her ring bearer’s pillow from her mother’s wedding dress. What a beautiful way to honor her parents’ marriage in her own wedding!

Rachel and Adam’s Island House Wedding

Rachel and Adam had a beautiful fall-themed wedding at The Island House on Johns Island and Wendy and I were lucky enough to get to photograph it for them.

We had a hard time narrowing this wedding down to our favorite photos and while we think the beautiful couple and the amazing wedding they put together is reason enough to scroll all the way through, there’s a special, awesome surprise for USC fans at the end. Clemson fans, there’s also a lot of purple in the wedding, so, there’s that for ya’.
