Stephanie: Charleston Bridal Portraits
Stephanie got married to Matt last Saturday night, and you know what that means… bridal portraits!!!
Wendy and I have been waiting since July to show you these. Now, some of you may wisely be thinking, “July? In Charleston? In a wedding dress? That can’t be a good idea,” and you, my friend, would be correct. Stephanie, though, is a smart cookie, and one thing she was absolutely clear on was that this shoot would be exclusively indoors. Yes, it’s true that natural light can make for beautiful portraits, but the South Carolina sun is not your friend when you’re wearing 25 pounds of satin. Remember, the air conditioner is your friend.
Our quest for indoor locations led us to the John Rutledge House Inn in downtown Charleston. The home was built in 1763 for John Rutledge, one of the fifty-five signers of the U.S. Constitution. Historical value aside, though, the Inn is beautiful and the staff is absolutely delightful.
Check that eyebrow.
The outside of the inn is covered in gorgeous iron work. As we were exiting, a horse-drawn carriage tour was passing by and the tour guide complimented Stephanie on her gown. She also got some bonus photography at that point, but I haven’t seen how those pictures turned out.
From the John Rutledge House Inn, we moved on to one of my favorite places in Charleston, The Dock Street Theatre. When I was in high school and college, the band Jump, Little Children would end each year by playing (mostly) acoustic shows at the Dock Street accompanied by fantastic guest musicians. Those shows stand out in my memory as some of the greatest art I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing…but I digress.
Here’s the bride:
So, do you think Steph likes Audrey Hepburn?
I love these next two shots that Wendy grabbed while Stephanie sat in the window.
And one more Audrey shot, just for good measure.
As you can see, Stephanie knows how to work the camera. Check back next week when we should have pictures of Steph with her new husband, Matt at their (almost) Halloween wedding. See you soon!
P.S.- If you like the photos, please let us know in the Facebook comment box below. We’re suckers for flattery. :-)

Photo Booth: Alison & Hugo’s Wedding
At Alison and Hugo’s wedding, we set up a photo booth so that guests could take pictures of themselves for the newlyweds, and even add a message to them if they wanted. Since Wendy and I weren’t behind the camera for these, when we got home and loaded them on the computer most of the images were totally new to us. We hope you’ll enjoy them as much as we did!
Alison & Hugo: Charleston Wedding
Hugo and Alison were married on Father’s Day at Founders Hall at Charles Towne Landing which is an absolutely gorgeous venue in Charleston, SC. They planned an outdoor ceremony, so, predictably, it rained buckets roughly 45 minutes before the service, then the sun came out and dried everything up just in time for them to get started.
Wendy, as usual, started her day off with the girls…
…while I went over to Alison’s house where the guys were getting ready.
Hugo gave his groomsmen one of the coolest gifts I’ve ever seen: real books that had been hollowed out to contain a flask and a cup.
Wendy took this next photo so that Alison could see what the back of her hair looked like and whether there was enough baby’s breath in it. And you thought wedding photographers were just good for taking pictures!
I love this picture below on the right that Wendy got of Alison shortly after the rain ended. I think she captured the thankfulness that Alison was no doubt feeling beautifully.
So the guys packed up and headed to Founders Hall, which, have I mentioned, is gorgeous? Here’s the room where the girls were getting ready:
And here are the ladies, all ready to go.
Visiting with Ethan
This weekend Wendy and I went down to her parents’ house to visit with Wendy’s sister and our nephew Ethan. This is one dangerously cute kid, so photographic opportunities abounded.
We took Ethan to the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry down in Charleston where kids can shop in a pint-sized Publix for vegetables, meats, flowers, and just about everything else you’d find in a grocery store. I found it pretty funny that the Publix brand items cost less than their name-brand counterparts–teach them to bargain hunt young!
Ethan, as you can see, chooses his plastic vegetables carefully.
Yes, they have shopping carts for small-fries.
Ethan was awesome. With kids his age, it seems you have to watch them pretty closely to make sure they obey the social contract–you know, don’t steal items from other kids’ carts and the like. Not Ethan, though; he was helping other kids with their lists by dropping healthy snacks into their carts. Way to be helpful!
On top of that, Ethan didn’t go straight for the various sweets or cake mixes (which is a good thing because of his wheat allergy). Rather, he seemed genuinely excited about fruits and vegetables. His enthusiasm for this tomato was, however, a little excessive.
(Dude, you must buy the food before you taste it!)
After such an exciting day, of course Ethan wanted to share the story of his adventures. Unfortunately, he doesn’t yet speak English (we’re not quite sure what he does speak, but he does so passionately) and while adept at pressing buttons on phones, he doesn’t seem to do so systematically. Still, you can’t blame a guy for trying.
Finally, after a long day, it’s time for a bath. Like just about everything else, Ethan enjoys baths.
Rock on, buddy.
