{"id":2055,"date":"2013-08-13T16:24:11","date_gmt":"2013-08-13T20:24:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lumosstudio.com\/blog\/?p=2055"},"modified":"2013-08-13T16:24:11","modified_gmt":"2013-08-13T20:24:11","slug":"madame-stephenss-adventures-in-world-language-land","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lumosstudio.com\/blog\/2013\/08\/madame-stephenss-adventures-in-world-language-land\/","title":{"rendered":"Madame Stephens&#8217;s Adventures in World Language Land"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\" id=\"docs-internal-guid--b782e1d-7949-1694-a6f1-c662e678f506\">Madame Stephens was beginning to get very tired of having nothing to do, so she was considering in her own mind (as well as she could, for the hot day made her feel very sleepy and stupid), whether the pleasure of having a croissant would be worth the trouble of getting up and going to the p\u00c3\u00a2tisserie, when suddenly a White Rabbit with pink eyes ran close by her.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">There was nothing so <em>very<\/em> remarkable in that; nor did Madame Stephens think it so <em>very<\/em> much out of the way to hear the Rabbit muttering to herself in Spanish; but when the Rabbit actually<em> took a watch out of her waistcoat-pocket<\/em>, and looked at it, and then hurried on, Madame Stephens started to her feet, for it flashed across her mind that she had never before seen a rabbit with either a waistcoat-pocket, or a watch to take out of it, and burning with curiosity, she ran across the field after it, and fortunately was just in time to see it pop down a large rabbit-hole under the hedge.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In another moment down went Madame Stephens after it, never once considering how in the world she was to get out again.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">There was a table set out under a tree in front of the house, and Mrs. Schwarzbauer and Mrs. Ham were having tea at it: Mr. Ugro was sitting between them, fast asleep, and the other two were using him as a cushion, resting their elbows on him, and talking over his head. \u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Very uncomfortable for Mr. Ugro,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d thought Madame Stephens, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153only, as he\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s asleep, I suppose he doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t mind.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Next to the table, atop an enormous mushroom, Mrs. Nazario reposed, quietly blowing bubbles, and taking not the least notice of Madame Stephens or of anything else. Behind the table stood Mrs. Zuleika, the Queen of Hearts, and to her left sat a large cat which was grinning from ear to ear.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lumosstudio.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Alice-In-Wonderland-Photograph.jpg\" rel=\"prettyPhoto[g2055]\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2056\" alt=\"Alice In Wonderland Photograph\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lumosstudio.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Alice-In-Wonderland-Photograph.jpg\" width=\"950\" height=\"633\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lumosstudio.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Alice-In-Wonderland-Photograph.jpg 950w, https:\/\/www.lumosstudio.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Alice-In-Wonderland-Photograph-600x399.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.lumosstudio.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Alice-In-Wonderland-Photograph-730x486.jpg 730w, https:\/\/www.lumosstudio.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Alice-In-Wonderland-Photograph-590x393.jpg 590w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Please would you tell me,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Madame Stephens, a little timidly, for she was not quite sure whether it was good manners for her to speak first, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153why your cat grins like that?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0153It&#8217;s a Grantham cat,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said the Queen, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153and that&#8217;s why.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Cat only grinned when it saw Madame Stephens. It looked good-natured, she thought: still it had <em>very<\/em> long claws and a great many teeth, so she felt that it ought to be treated with respect.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Grantham Puss,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d she began, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0153That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said the Cat.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0153I don&#8217;t much care where\u00e2\u20ac\u201d\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Madame Stephens.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Then it doesn&#8217;t matter which way you go,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said the Cat.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0153\u00e2\u20ac\u201dso long as I get <em>somewhere<\/em>,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Madame Stephens added as an explanation.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Oh, you&#8217;re sure to do that,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said the Cat, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153if you only walk long enough.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Madame Stephens felt that this could not be denied, so she tried another question. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153What sort of people live about here?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Here we have,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d the Cat said, waving its right paw round, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153a Hatter and a White Rabbit. Visit with either you like: they&#8217;re both mad.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0153But I don&#8217;t want to go among mad people,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Madame Stephens remarked.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Oh, you can&#8217;t help that,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said the Cat: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153we&#8217;re all mad here. I&#8217;m mad.
