Professional Photographers of South Carolina: February Midlands meet-up

A few weeks ago Wendy and I went out to 701 Whaley here in Columbia for a meeting of the Professional Photographers of South Carolina Midlands chapter. The get together was a “show up and shoot”, meaning that we, well, showed up and shot…pictures (I feel that I should clarify that for my hunting relatives and friends in law enforcement). Lee Bradshaw of One 27 Media (and one of our amazing wedding photographers) set up the meeting, so a couple of weeks before hand I emailed him and asked if they could use any models. He said that some additional models would be appreciated, so I got in touch with Michael and Katie who had recently gotten engaged and who are a stunningly beautiful couple, inside and out. Wendy and I probably hogged them for way more of the night than we should have, and I hope the other photographers there (like the talented and very sweet Stephanie Seay who we met there) didn’t mind too much.

Anyway, we put together a slide show of some of the photos we took. We hope you like it!

At one point, while I was either hogging Michael and Katie or looking over Lee’s shoulder, Wendy grabbed Megan, who also graciously agreed to pose for us that night, and got these glamorous shots…in the bathroom. Yup, for some reason that’s where they keep the really cool furniture at 701 Whaley.

Thanks to the PPofSC and to Lee for putting this together, to 701 Whaley for having us and providing a great backdrop and to our lovely models Katie, Michael, and Megan. You guys rock!

Christmas Social

When I (J.P.) am not taking pictures or playing music for children, I corrupt instruct high-schoolers in a number of subjects, some of which are vaguely related to my philosophy degrees. In general, I try to maintain an attitude of disinterested disdain toward my students, but, as you may have guessed from the Snuggie post, they sometimes get the better of me and warm my cold, cold heart.

The truth is, I have some of the best students any teacher could ask for. In faith, intellect, and character, many of the students I teach and have taught are shining examples of humanity who I actually *ahem* respect. Some of them have even gone on to become my friends, though if they try calling me by my first name I will disembowel them. Now, before things get too mushy, on to the post.

On Friday, the kids celebrated the end of the term with a Christmas social. I shot photos and some video for them and, as a way to thank them for being pretty amazing, made this video. I hope they, and you, enjoy it.

Britt & Jason: Wedding Slideshow

Danny & Becky: Married

Danny and Becky were married May 25th at the Corley Mill House & Garden in Lexington, South Carolina. Wendy and I photographed their joyous day along with our photographically and personally awesome brother-in-law Loren. (If you’re in the DC area and need a great photographer, he’s your man.)

Wendy started the day early, photographing the girls as they got ready at Becky’s place. Becky not only did her own makeup, but that of several of the bridesmaids as well.

Meanwhile, Loren and I headed to the Corley Mills House to photograph the guys finishing up their preparations and get a few shots of Danny with his groomsmen.

Finally, the big moment arrived. The ceremony was beautiful. Danny and Becky had written their own vows and immediately after exchanging rings they took communion together for the first time as husband and wife. It was absolutely lovely.

The reception was, like the reception of most Shack weddings, raucous and tons of fun. We especially appreciated the enthusiasm of the folks vying for the garter and bouquet.

Though everyone wanted to spend some time with the new couple, we managed to pull them aside for just a couple of minutes to get some shots of the two of them alone. How did they spend that time? Well…

When it was time for them to go, Becky and Danny’s guests sent them off in a hail of bubbles.

Phil & Tracie’s Wedding

Wendy and I were blessed to have the opportunity to photograph the wedding of one of my former students, Tracie, and her fiance, Phil. The wedding was a particularly special time for me since I’ve taught three of the attendants. Tracie, as you can see from the photo below, was an absolutely beautiful bride and everybody had a fantastic time.

Below is a slide show of some of our favorite images from the wedding set to “100 Years” by Five for Fighting. Luke Marr, another former student, played the song beautifully during the ceremony. Sadly, I don’t have a recording of that, so Five for Fighting will have to do. You can click the button that looks like this to watch it full-screen.
